Live Broadcast from Ukraine at the CreaLog Telco Summit 2022: New Strategies for Communication Service Providers

The CreaLog Telco Summit 2022, held in late October at the Motorwelt München, focused entirely on new strategies for the telecommunications industry and their implementation to further advance digitalization, automation, and cloudification.

Following a thematic introduction by CreaLog founder Michael Kloos, Prof. Dr. Jens Böcker gave attendees an in-depth look into the European telecommunications market in his keynote, drawing on current studies to highlight key insights for the future of European telcos. Experts then demonstrated how Communication Service Providers (CSPs) can implement new solutions quickly on the CreaLog Service Delivery Platform, increasing ARPU (Average Revenue Per User), particularly in the B2B segment.

Senior Product Manager Johannes Beck focused on the question of how telcos can respond to their business customers' trend of moving on-premise solutions to the cloud. His approach: telcos should offer these solutions to their B2B customers themselves, rather than leaving the field to over-the-top players (OTTs). For Senior Account Manager Andreas Schaub, flexibility of the offering ran through his presentation like a common thread: a strong focus on customer requirements, from standard solutions and individual adaptations to add-ons and the development of customer-specific solutions. The presentation by cloud expert Andreas März explained how CreaLog solutions integrate into telcos' cloud environments, and at CreaLog FutureLab, Team Lead Voice Applications Anne Schilling gave an exciting look into the latest developments in voice technology.

We spoke with CreaLog founder and Managing Director Michael Kloos about the Telco Summit 2022 and asked for his assessment of current IT trends.

Mr. Kloos, what's your takeaway from this year's CreaLog Telco Summit?

First of all, we're delighted that after two years we were finally able to hold our Telco Summit as an in-person event again. It still makes a big difference whether attendees are watching from their desks or are right there in the middle of it all. Besides, an online version wouldn't have had a car race or a cooking event.

What were the key topics at the Telco Summit 2022?

Artificial intelligence and bot technology are the major drivers today. We saw some outstanding presentations on this. With the CreaLog Service Delivery Platform, we bring all communication channels together on a single platform and can realize many different solutions and services. Johannes Beck presented the architecture behind the platform and gave an impressive explanation of how it's used to meet network operators' needs.

What market trends do you see?

Quite a few! For one, multi-service platforms like the CreaLog Service Delivery Platform are in high demand. That means many services run on a single platform covering voice and chat bots, call recording, transcription and analysis, all the way to cloud contact center and other value-added services. The trend is moving away from silos toward shared resources, lowering the cost of procuring and operating IT systems at telcos. In addition, AI and bots for voice and chat will play an increasingly important role in customer service, all within an omnichannel environment, with shared bots for telephony, website, chat, messenger, and so on.

What has changed on the telco side?

We're seeing stronger demand for new operating models, meaning rental models, revenue-sharing arrangements, and more, alongside outright purchase. On the technical side, it's almost all about private and public cloud, so names like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft ACS, and others.

Were there also examples from current projects at the Summit?

Oh, yes. One of our most demanding projects right now is with Kyivstar, the largest mobile network operator in Ukraine. Michael Michler from CreaLog and Nikolay Yefremov from Kyivstar presented this exciting and highly successful project. Our cloud-based 112 emergency call routing and eCall modem solutions also remain very relevant, making local solutions in emergency call centers, i.e. PSAPs, unnecessary.
