Public administration: voice portal, conferencing, and voicemail

Six federal states, one ICT provider

Many citizens still greet the idea of a "digital city" and a public administration with comprehensive online services with a shrug: "nice in theory" or "wishful thinking". Yet genuinely convincing, successful e-government stories do exist. Dataport is a prime example, founded in 2004 as a public-law institution (Anstalt des öffentlichen Rechts, AöR) by the German states of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein.

Dataport's Next Generation Network (NGN) with CreaLog telephony

Hamburg's public authorities have communicated exclusively via digital channels since 2010. Data and telephony services at Dataport run over the so-called Next Generation Network, a pure IP network.

This covers the entire Hamburg administrative network, FHH-Net, including police, fire services, schools, universities, and district authorities. As a telephony solutions specialist, CreaLog makes a substantial contribution to the success of Dataport's NGN.

Every day, the Dataport NGN handles communications for 68,000 registered IP phones and 3,300 special-purpose lines, such as elevator emergency call systems, G3 fax machines, and energy meters, through a central gateway. In addition, around 10,000 users from agencies affiliated with public authorities are connected to the Dataport NGN.
